Attention!

Marketing for 100 years has been to advertise for people's attention. This tactic was so ubiquitus that in fact advertising was marketing, and marketing was advertising. The two were considered the same. Billboards were created to advertise, radio was created to advertise, tv was created to advertise, magazines were created to advertise, and what about the internet? The internet was created to communicate and connect. The internet was meant to help people find information, share information, and connect to each other.

So how have marketers adapted to the internet? Not very well.

Many marketers missed the note that advertising is now just another tactic to marketing, and not the all-inclusive strategy of the olden days. Top marketers have adapted to the connected economy and are starting to put together the pieces of effective marketing strategies for the companies they work for.

Top marketing firms and professionals are finally beginning to understand that tactis alone are NOT Digital Marketing. SEO is NOT internet marketing. Google Ads are not marketing. These tools like SEO are a set of tactics and why the top marketers today are focused on content and telling a compelling story instead. Seo is still a part of your online marketing, but the focus must be on Content Marketing in order to engage your customers. Most companies focus on the tactics of optimization and not on the strategy and long term effects of digital marketing efforts. Top marketers don't. If your team wants search engine optimisation on it's own, you will lose.  If your team wants to understand small seo tools and how they fit in the overall plan of your internet marketing strategy, then read on.

Here's What Top Marketers Focus On

*hint; it's CONTENT

Content. Content Content. It's what people look for. People's need for information will never go away and so it's a modern marketing job to provide it. Yet so many marketers focus on SEO. So many firms, agencies, 'internet' companies, claim to do SEO and some are probably pretty good at performing the functions and pulling the levers. But few understand the whys of good strategy. Top marketers help your company understand the importance that seo can help drive traffic to the content, that's the goal.

Because most agencies realize that you as a business owner or decision maker don't know what you're doing, they can charge you a lot of money for simple work. In the same argument, they don't need to show you results. They will update your website so the red X's go away and that's usually where the work ends, and where most companies feel that the work ends. Thus, many will check it off the list and move on. Wrong! Stop doing it this way! Optimization goes beyond just clicking some buttons and making the errors disappear. You must be focused on Content and Value and derive your seo strategy from this starting point.

1. SEO Your Content

content seo needle haystack marketing

Search Engine Optimization does involve all the usual stuff like Meta Descriptions, Alt Tags, H1 and H2 tags, Calls to Action, and several others. We view all these as the price of admission when doing seo work. These are merely the tactics of good digital hygiene. These are updated when necessary but are not a strategy for your digital inbound marketing. This is where most marketing agencies focus their offering. They offer to fill in the blanks, because they know where the blanks are and how to fill them. Go beyond seo, the tactics alone aren't good enough.

2. Keywords Are Key

For Kpahi, it all starts with keywords. We build a digital strategy focused on the internet, and who runs the internet? Google. You'll have a tough time engaging an audience or potential customers if you write content and produce marketing designed for people only. Your digital presence needs to make sense to Google so the search engine can help customers (and fans) find your stuff. Focus on Google and all other touchpoints fall into place, touchpoints like Yelp, Yahoo!, Apple Maps, etc. Identify your business, your services, your differentiators, and start building a keyword list that makes sense to kick off a sustainable digital strategy.

3. Update Your Content

4. Integrate Your Keywords

After updating content, start integrating your keywords into your future content. Blogs, articles, how-to's, ebooks, etc. Also integrate your keywords into the seo tactics named above. These must be in your page descriptions, page titles, meta information, alt tags, and so on. Long tail keywords and latent semantic indexing get distributed throughout your digital presence to gain authority and traffic.

5. Use Tools And Keep It Simple Stupid

SEO doesn't have to be agonizing mind-numbing work. There's technology out there to make it easy and fool-proof. Plug-ins and software have made this practice so accessible and why we see this as the price of admission to good digital marketing.  Use technology to guide your process thru the tactics so you don't miss anything important and take advantage at every corner. It's what the pros do, so why not you?

6. Monitor, Adapt, Manuever, And Do It Again

Now that you have researched your keywords, implemented them into your content, and integrated them into your seo tactics, it's time to be a good internet steward of your business. Use tools to monitor your keyword rankings, competitor rankings, keyword opportunities, and continue to look for long-tail keyword options that fit. Keep adapting, manuevering, and do it all again. And again. Discipline will lead to good outcomes with digital marketing. Good practices will lead to building authority and presence on the internet, which leads to traffic, and leads to customers, and leads to money!!!
